8 Shambhala Dharma Kings Empowerment

Cultivating Enlightened Leadership in a Time of Transition

At a time when the world is urgently seeking wise, ethical, and compassionate leadership, the teachings of Shambhala offer a timeless and transformative vision: leadership rooted in wisdom, benevolence, and service to the whole. What better way to cultivate these qualities than to come into direct contact with the Shambhala Dharma Kings, whose enlightened leadership transformed their entire realm through the practice and realization of the Kalachakra teachings?

This vision closely mirrors the ancient ideal of the Universal Monarch—a ruler who governs not through force, but through wisdom and moral authority. This same archetype appears in the mythology and historical imagination of Hungary, making this temple a particularly meaningful setting where Eastern and Western contemplative traditions meet around a shared understanding of enlightened rulership.

As part of this special gathering, we are honored to present—for the first time—select paintings of the Shambhala Dharma Kings, unveiled in preparation for the extraordinary convergence in 2027:

  • The changing of the monarch in the realm of Shambhala

  • One thousand years of Kalachakra in Tibetan Buddhism

  • The dawning of the Second Golden Age of peace and harmony

This event invites us not only to contemplate these ideals, but to embody them—to awaken the qualities of a wheel-turning Dharma King within our own nature and become agents of positive transformation in the world.

About the Kings of Shambhala

The Kalki Kings are the Dharma Kings of the Sublime Realm of Shambhala. Through the Kalachakra teachings, they skillfully unified their kingdom—transcending divisions of race, class, culture, and conflicting belief systems. Their leadership went far beyond worldly governance. By embodying compassion and wisdom, they transformed Shambhala into a pure bodhisattva realm—harmonious, joyful, and flourishing in spiritual practice.

Unlike worldly rulers focused on power or territory, the Kalkis are Kings of the Dharma—bodhisattva beings who manifest as extraordinary human leaders for the direct benefit of the world.

“The Kalki Kings are inseparable from the Eight Great Bodhisattvas and the Ten Wrathful Dākas. What makes them especially significant is their direct connection with our world. They appeared as human beings so that many could benefit from connecting with them.

I feel a strong connection with the Kalkis and have no doubt they are the greatest hope for the manifestation of the Second Golden Age of peace and harmony.”
 — Khentrul Rinpoche

Who are the Kalki Kings?

“In general we say that the Kalki Kings are inseparable from the 8 great bodhisattvas and the 10 wrathful dakas. They are incredibly powerful. For me, the Shambhala kings are much more special because of their particular connection with our own world. The bodhisattvas and dakas possess a subtle body form, like a body of a being of the god realm, and so, only some individuals can connect with them. But the Shambhala Kings and Kalkis appeared in Shambhala as human beings, so that many people could benefit through connecting with them. And, of course, they manifest themselves not as an ordinary human being, but as an exceptional, extraordinary human being. I have been dedicating myself intensively to prepare for this empowerment. I feel a strong connection with the Kalkis and I have no doubt that they are the greatest hope of our world for the manifestation of the Second Golden Age of Peace and Harmony.”

Khentrul Rinpoche

Jonang Kalachakra and Rimé Master

Khentrul Rinpoché Jamphel Lodrö is the founder and spiritual director of Dzokden. Rinpoche is the author of Unveiling Your Sacred Truth, The Great Middle Way: Clarifying the Jonang View of Other-Emptiness, A Happier Life, and The Hidden Treasure of the Profound Path. Rinpoche spent the first 20 years of his life herding yak and chanting mantras on the plateaus of Tibet. Inspired by the bodhisattvas, he left his family to study in a variety of monasteries under the guidance of over twenty-five masters in all the Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Due to his non-sectarian approach, he earned himself the title of Rimé (unbiased) Master and was identified as the reincarnation of the famous Kalachakra Master Ngawang Chözin Gyatso. While at the core of his teachings is the recognition that there is great value in the diversity of all spiritual traditions found in this world; he focuses on the Jonang-Shambhala tradition. Kalachakra (wheel of time) teachings contain profound methods to harmonize our external environment with the inner world of body and mind, ultimately bringing about the golden age of peace and harmony (dzokden).
